Taylor Swift an “obnoxious Nazi Barbie”, writes Camille Paglia (theguardian.com).
That’s a Barbie Nazi, not a FemiNazi, y’all.
“Camille Paglia has written a scathing critique of Taylor Swift, referring to the singer as an ‘obnoxious Nazi Barbie’ whose ‘twinkly persona is such a scary flashback to the fascist blondes who ruled the social scene during my youth’. Paglia, known for seminal feminist works such as Sexual Personae, criticised the singer for perpetuating elitism and undermining female empowerment by surrounding herself with a group of girls who were simply ‘performance props’.”
For sure, she’s not the first to suggest similar, that being Katy Perry with a Mean Girls comparison (msn.com, Mar. 2015), and exactly what else is she “perpetuating” attempting to trademark “Swiftmas?”

Arts, culture, tech. & funnies
The 2016 Pirelli Calendar may signal a cultural shift (nytimes.com).
“On Monday, a new kind of Pirelli calendar was unveiled, showcasing 12 months of fully clad women (mostly) chosen for their achievements.Though the calendar has, on rare occasions, featured women in clothes (most notably in 2013, when it was shot in Brazil by Steve McCurry), this is the first time there is no provocation in the posing, and the first time the attraction of the subjects is in their résumés, not their measurements.”
A “never sold but given to an exclusive group of 20,000 V.I.P.’s, musicians, politicians and royalty” Pirelli Calendar with no provocative, let alone rudie bits? For sure, if we consider “the cultural shift” being whatever it takes to get it into a headline perhaps; social justice warrior lumbersexuals can chop iPad wood with no guilt while sawing for cultural shift DIY selfie porn from someone just met on Facebook.
But what shift—cultural or otherwise—is to be found or not removed within?

K-pop girl band Oh My Girl “mistaken” for sex workers at Los Angeles airport (independent.co.uk).
“A Korean girl pop group has been forced to fly home from Los Angeles after airport officials allegedly suspected its members of being sex workers. Oh My Girl, which has eight members aged from 16 to 21, said in a statement they were held for fifteen hours at Los Angeles International Airport by customs and border officials.
“According to the Los Angeles Times, the airport was suspicious of the number of props, clothing and staff accompanying the band.”
Making it sound as if accompanying pop diva “props” were akin to something I draw.

GCHQ finally admits it “persistently” hacked computers and phones in the UK and abroad (ibtimes.co.uk).
“For the first time, UK intelligence agency GCHQ has admitted that it does hack into computers and devices to install malware to spy on people both in the UK and abroad. The admission was made before the UK’s independent Investigatory Powers Tribunal, which is hearing complaints by human rights advocacy group Privacy International and seven internet service providers (ISPs) that GCHQ and the Foreign Office broke privacy laws to illegally hack into phones, computers and networks around the world.”
Well, there you go. To be honest, I’d always expected they did, and still will do despite Home Secretary Theresa May forced to backtrack on internet “snooping” plans at the start of last month (Latest Picks 2nd Nov. 2015). But even if they have/did/will do, it’s just not as great and good as un-American headloppers, according to Donald “I don’t want them shopping at Amazon” rump Trump (thisisnocave.blogspot.co.uk).

Which un-encryptedly leads us on through a backdoor to…
Apple wades into UK encryption debate criticizing Investigatory Powers Bill (ibtimes.com).
“Apple is calling on the British government to rethink proposed laws it believes would weaken the security of the hundreds of millions of people who use the company’s instant messaging service and could potentially spark ‘serious global conflicts.’ In an unexpected move, the U.S. tech giant has made an eight-page written submission to a committee that is currently scrutinizing the Investigatory Powers Bill introduced by British Home Secretary Theresa May last month.
“In its submission, Apple raised concerns over weakening encryption, hacking and the fact that implementing those rules would set a worrying precedent that other countries would follow. ‘The bill threatens to hurt law-abiding citizens in its effort to combat the few bad actors who have a variety of ways to carry out their attacks,’ Apple’s submission says. ‘The creation of backdoors and intercept capabilities would weaken the protections built into Apple products and endanger all our customers. A key left under the doormat would not just be there for the good guys. The bad guys would find it too.’”
Indeed, and that’s despite Daesh compelling all its headloppers to dump their i devices as they suspect they are already being used to track them (ibtimes.com, Feb. 2015). And that “the bad guys would find it too” and sooner rather than later as they do with most exploits it seems and it not just being Apple’s encryption such a snoopers agenda charter could do damage to more than just Jihadists knocking one out on Facetime (Pick of the Week 5th Mar. 2014); login to your PayPal anyone?

Having already been banned by the Met for use on anything but private property (telegraph.co.uk, Oct. 2015), I guess it’s the “gift” that never was….
Get rid of your hoverboards now, Amazon tells customers (telegraph.co.uk).
“Customers who bought hoverboards as Christmas gifts have been urged to ‘dispose’ of them and accept refunds after three of Britain’s biggest retailers suspended sales. In an email seen by The Telegraph, internet giant Amazon has asked customers to take the self-balancing, two-wheeled scooters to a local recycling point for electronic equipment. John Lewis and Argos also said they had stopped selling hoverboards after reports emerged of the popular Christmas gift catching fire and exploding.”
More a gyroscopic keep-up-right thingy more related to the ill-fated Segway than anything Marty McFly hopped on in Back to the Future and for them to recommend you just dispose of it at a recycling point for electronic equipment rather than send it back in to claim your refund, there really be something foul hovering up that pipe.
