Whatever’s on my mind really.

A peek at illustration inspiring celebrity sexiness, quirky news stories from inherently pornified pop culture, tips, sketchbook and work in progress, reviews and other things of interest; whatever’s on my mind really—which more fool you if you ever take that seriously.

Latest Picks is a sort of mini-blog for daily thoughts and picks. Longer articles, stories & sketches are found in the full-size blog, where indeed Latest Picks are moved when updates to a story make it too large.

Note: Both Latest Picks and Blog are to be retired at the end of September, although both will remain available indefinitely as an archived part of the site. No further updates to past stories will be made.

Sadly, it was “philthy” Phil Taylor back in November and now, alas…

Lemmy, lead singer of Motörhead, dies at 70 (theguardian.com).

Lemmy

“Lemmy Kilmister, founding member and singer in British heavy metal band Motörhead, has died at the age of 70 shortly after learning he had been diagnosed with cancer. The band announced on their Facebook page that Lemmy learned of the disease on 26 December, and was at home when he died.

“Lemmy formed Motörhead in 1975. The band released 23 studio albums and are best known for their 1980 single Ace of Spades. The band requested fans ‘play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself’.”

Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister obituary (theguardian.com).

“Unusually in the field of heavy music, Lemmy was a thinker, debater and philosopher of great intuition and compassion. Interviewers were routinely surprised by Lemmy’s keen understanding of social and political issues, although he was far from optimistic about the progress of mankind. ‘The world’s going to end up with everybody sitting in their room punching keyboards,’ he said. His antagonism towards religion, governments and indeed any established authority was clear.”

A true cultural icon and, said again, my musical tastes being notoriously eclectic, a band I had the pleasure to see many, many enjoyable times.

If you think you are too old to rock-n-roll…
Trivia: As well as forming Motörhead—his own heavy metal baby after he left—as primarily bassist a relatively young Lemmy sung “Silver Machine” the biggest hit of former band of space cowboys Space Ritual tour era Hawkwind back in 1972, much to his amusement and the rest of the band from which he would be dishonourably ejected’s indignation. A rebel to the end, that perhaps is the irony that should inform our musical break time.

Lemmy’s funeral to be live streamed on YouTube (theguardian.com).

“Details of Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister’s funeral have been announced, and everyone is invited to watch it online. According to a Facebook statement from the band, friends and family are invited to attend a ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Hollywood, Los Angeles. But the band have asked fans to refrain from visiting—instead they have arranged for YouTube to show the ceremony via a live stream (which can be accessed here). The stream will run from 3pm PST to 4.30pm PST (11pm GMT to 12.30am GMT).”

Alas, too much to hope for a real-life incarnation of the bike-from-the-grave at 3:07 in “Killed by Death” music video though.
