Joe Jackson: Patriarch of Jackson family dies aged 89 (bbc.co.uk).
Jackson passed away early on Wednesday morning. He had been in hospital for terminal pancreatic cancer, according to media reports.
As family patriarch he played a large role as manager in the careers of the Jackson 5 and Michael and later Janet’s solo careers, for good and for bad:

It was Joe Jackson who transformed their home life from merely unusual to nightmarish. He was a distant parent. “None of us can remember him holding us or cuddling us or telling us ‘I love you’,” Jermaine Jackson subsequently recalled. But the discovery that his offspring had musical talent turned him from merely cold and violent into a despot.
Reserving a particularly cruel streak of psychological bullying for Michael who was the Jackson 5’s youngest and most talented member.

Paris Jackson reveals she shared final moments with granddad Joe Jackson before he died aged 89 (mirror.co.uk).
After news of his death broke, tributes flooded in from around the world and now his grandchild, Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris, has paid her own tribute to the “first true Jackson”.
Sharing on Instagram a picture of their hands entwined on his hospital bed.
