Freddie Starr: Tributes paid after comic dies aged 76 (bbc.co.uk).
The Merseyside-born comic, singer and impressionist who was a household name in Blighty in the 70 and 80s and life-long heavy smoker seemingly having suffered a heart attack at his Costa del Sol home yesterday afternoon, and with his career dogged in its twilight by accusations under the police investigation into sexual abuse Operation Yewtree (Wikipedia) which had snared his manager Max Clifford, the man responsible for the Current Bun’s “Freddie Star Ate My Hamster” headline later voted the most memorable headline of the 20th century.
Comedian Bobby Davro described him as “the funniest man I have ever seen”, while presenter Amanda Holden said he should be “remembered with a smile”.
