Anthony Bourdain, the chef, writer, and Emmy-winning television personality, died Friday morning of an apparent suicide at the age of 61. His death was confirmed to CNN, which reported that the Parts Unknown host was in Strasbourg, France, filming an episode of the series when chef Eric Ripert, a longtime friend of Bourdain’s, found him unresponsive in his hotel room.

A culinary bad boy and rock star of the culinary world for liberal use of profanity and sexual references in his television shows and known for trying worldwide specialty dishes from sheep testicles, ant eggs to an entire cobra, but a “ brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many,” with his exploration of international culture, cuisine, and the human condition. And most recently found himself an advocate of the #MeToo movement as a united front with girlfriend Asia Argento.

Asia Argento, Anthony Bourdain

Asia Argento shares heartbreaking statement on Anthony Bourdain’s sudden death (refinery29.uk).

“Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did,” she wrote on Instagram and Twitter. “His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.”

But some had a different take to shouting in usual mainly ALL CAPS headline that the suicide was because of relationship, or rather the break up of it:

ROSE MCGOWAN: NO BLAME IN BOURDAIN SUICIDE, Asia Argento is a Survivor!! (tmz.com).

Citizen Rose

Said foundation of blame being built upon photos TMZ had published last week of Asia hugging and holding hands with a French reporter while Bourdain was in France too, with McGowan and Argento starring together in Citizen Rose (imdb.com), spreading her message of “bravery, art, joy and survival” in post-Weinstein #MeToo world.

Rose says she knows people who knew Anthony, or just loved him on TV, want to “lash out and blame” someone for his death, but says Asia is not the one to blame. Rose is reportedly in Italy comforting Asia and calls her a “brave survivor.”

And saying that “Anthony and Asia had a free relationship, they loved without borders of traditional relationship”, but then seemingly suggesting Bourdain had depression but had chose to do nothing about it:

Rose says Anthony sought help for his depression but, for some reason, didn’t take the doctor’s advice. She adds, “It is in no way fair or acceptable to blame her or anyone else, not even Anthony.”
