Perhaps in light of the recent Harvey Weinstein and Amazon Studios chief Roy Price allegations (Blog, 13th Oct. 2017):
Pussycat Dolls respond to ex-members claims that group was a “prostitution ring” (bbc.co.uk).
“Pussycat Dolls have responded to recent comments from former member Kaya Jones, who likened her time in the group to being part of a ‘prostitution ring’.
Jones claiming on Twitter that the group were “consistently exploited by music industry figures” and made to sleep with music executives and “whoever they say”, the they presumably being the Illuminati who along with the highly commercial song and dance burlesque troupe the Pussycat Dolls franchise were also hire out Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus for a night time “performance” with a reduction given to those whose shook hands identify them as members of certain Masonic lodges.
“The band, led by Nicole Scherzinger, said they ‘were not aware of Kaya’s experiences’ and offered her support. However, they firmly denied that the remaining members had been abused.”
Which obviously flags it as undoubtedly true to those in conspiracy dungarees who elected Orange Don king of the Umpa-Lumpas to make post-truth confectionery #MAGA.
But…
There is also a slice of the pop culture milieu—in particular a middle-aged, often resentful commenting slice—that considers pop divas outfits and performance makes them interchangeable with prostitutes.
But at the same time, they—probably not the same they Kaya is referring to but who knows—seem not able or at least keen to apply the same performance logic to male dominated bands they actually do like, where dressing with thug life and using gangster hand signs does not necessarily mean they were born in or near any particular hood, or that they really are fighting with 6 to 12 strings in a post apocalyptic leather-clad Mad Max future, or are Gwar-ish (cleveland.com) monstrosities when getting in post-show shower.
A strange correspondence illustrating double standards for a caricaturist regularly drawing whichever large vegetable insertion best fits particular story perhaps, but, you know, who am I really satirising?
