Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones angered by racist Twitter abuse (belfasttelegraph.co.uk).
“The American actress said she felt numb as she shared a string of racist tweets she had been sent on social media. ‘I’m not stupid to not know racism exists,’ she wrote on Twitter. ‘And I know it will probably live on way after me. But we have to make people take responsibility. Twitter I understand you got free speech I get it. But there has to be some guidelines when you let spread like that.’”
Indeed, but those “guidelines” currently fall foul perhaps of Twitter seemingly not having much of a place now that Instagram has taken the selfie picture crown away if not for being the place you can share your Katie Hopkins-esque “free speech” and point of view, which it has to be said, when not overtly racist or misogynistic is at least usually rather insulting to whomever addressed as that seems to be social media etiquette for “look at me, I’m SPEAKING!”
And doubly so now that political leeway seems to be having given on both sides on the pond with Trump wanting to enclose his great American casinos within walls and wise uncles and aunties over here voting Brexit before settling down with ear trumpet for another episode of Heartbeat in the hope that the several decades coppers spent in Aidensfield in the single decade of the 1960s slowly peddling after crime on a motorised scooter without a Johnny Foreigner from any further than Watford in sight might eventually catch up with the present.
“The hashtag LoveForLeslieJ began trending on Twitter after Jones highlighted the abuse she was suffering online. … A Twitter spokesman said: ‘This type of abusive behaviour is not permitted on Twitter, and we’ve taken action on many of the accounts reported to us by both Leslie and others. We rely on people to report this type of behaviour to us but we are continuing to invest heavily in improving our tools and enforcement systems to prevent this kind of abuse. We realise we still have a lot of work in front of us before Twitter is where it should be on how we handle these issues.’”
Indeed, as with many social sharing platforms with reliance on user reportage it often requires a counter campaign to trend or being picked up by the media before something is done because “freedom of speech” and equally vague none too well defined concept of what is and isn’t appropriate in a way that rival Instagram automated nipple checker bot can home on in any teated bits makes it a tricky populist proposition, and not one Twitter alone has to contend with.
“The announcement of the new female cast was met by criticism online from some Ghostbusters fans, while the film’s trailer attracted more than 900,000 ‘dislikes’ on YouTube—a record number for a movie trailer on the website.”
And I’d bet the “dislikes” were not just left in the form of clicked button; I can imagine the commentary left has a similar “freedom of speech” feel, presumably just because those chaps sooOoo loved the Murray/Aykroyd/Ramis ghostbusting all male threesome with the main female role left to the strong yet still damsel in distress later posessed shedevil Sigourney Weaver, and likely highlights their dissatisfaction with Hollywood’s remake/reboot fever rather than any particulars in the new cast.
And as for relying on people to report this type of behaviour, that really in practice turns out to be mainly used—when not for copyright infringement which again they have said bot for—for trying to close account of someone you are at word war with on there after they said something you didn’t agree with.
No, I havn’t seen it, and am in no hurry too, but, for sure #LoveForLeslieJ (Twitter).

Indeed, and if any are still in doubt that it very probably has lil‘ to do with any exasperation over a classic being remade:
Online troll Milo Yiannopoulos banned from Twitter after Ghostbusters’ Leslie Jones deletes account over racist abuse (mirror.co.uk).
“Milo Yiannopoulos, a right-wing writer and known online troll, has been permanently banned from Twitter over his role in the abuse of Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones. The technology editor for website Breitbart, who referred to himself as ‘the most fabulous supervillain on the internet’ and had the handle @nero has been suspended several times from the social media platform in the past, but has now has his account shutdown for good after he was accused of inciting the racist abuse of Jones, over her role in the movie reboot.”
Obviously one of those “fabulous supervillains” that does his supervillainy in shirt half open to show off his pecs and doubtless, some kind of little kings medallion.
Perhaps, unless you are one who requires to type tl;dr
on forum or blog post that cannot capture any more than the click-bait essence of a story on forum or blog post in a Twitteresque 140 char. limit headline and can occassionally lend an eye to anything not related to Kim or Miley’s bedunk or bedink, you may have read recently that Breitbert was trying to whip up a “purple surge” of supposedly disenchanted Tories defecting to UKIP after Brexit which although according to new Tory PM, Theresa May, Brexit is Brexit but, to the those kipper-skippers exaggerating truth with oppotunity Brexit is not Brexit with a woman! PURPLE SURGE: Furious Tory members defect to UKIP in protest at Theresa May’s victory, but apparently those “Tories” voted UKIP last time too (thisisnocave.blogspot.co.uk).

Awkward, as nude pics scandals obviously being on my beat it would be conspicuous by its absence:
SNL’s Leslie Jones hacked in the worst way, nude photos released (tmz.com).
“Leslie Jones has been horribly violated by a hacker who got into her website and posted all of her identification, including driver’s license and passport … and naked photos. Jones has been dogged by haters since ‘Ghostbusters’ was released and she was the target of a slew of racist comments.”
And unlike TMZ I’m not going to dignify it by repeating—and posting picture, obviously in the interests of journalism—what was said and sent. Well, that’s just horrible hate by racists with an agenda and I’m certainly happy this time that their was that social sea-change post-Fappening regards leaked and stolen pics. Poor Leslie.
