Joe Wright bound for Fifty Shades of Grey directors chair? (guardian.co.uk).
“Joe Wright, the acclaimed British director of Atonement, Pride & Prejudice and Anna Karenina, has emerged as the surprise frontrunner to direct the forthcoming big-screen adaptation of “mommy porn” literary sensation 50 Shades of Grey”
I’m still of a mind to say I think they’ve left this tied too long and that it’ll end up direct-to-DVD, which I think will be a shame if only because it could have further whipped the porn-is-not-for-women brigade.

Arts, tech. & funnies
Promotion that encouraged women to run in underwear through city streets to win Hallhuber clothes voucher slammed (orange.co.uk).
“There is absolutely no reason to have half naked women running through the city in aid of the opening of a new store. It suggests women will do anything for a clothes voucher.”
Reddit GoneWild, where girls, guys and couples pose nude and post amateur porn, for Bitcoins And Upvotes (idigitaltimes.com).
“The /r/gonewild, message board on Reddit is described as, ‘place for open-minded Adult Redditors to exchange their nude bodies for karma; showing it off in a comfortable environment without pressure’ There’s also a /r/girlsgonebitcoin subreddit where you can, ‘post your naughty bits and get tipped in a digital currency.’”

Ray Harryhausen obituary (guardian.co.uk).
“Raymond Frederick Harryhausen, special effects creator and technician, born 29 June 1920; died 7 May 2013”
As some readers may recall, The Valley of Gwangi is one of my favourite films of all time and the chewing up of Tia’s midget is a favoured idiom for when things are beyond recovery.
The Guardian’s Jonathan Jones put it succinctly that Ray Harryhausen matched JMW Turner for special effects genius (guardian.co.uk)
“Like the great painters, Harryhausen was a visionary who brought the old myths back to life for a contemporary audience”
Jonathan Jones hails Jeff Koons, art’s king of pop continued reign at Manhattan’s Gagosian (guardian.co.uk).
“What he does, of course, is to shock the tasteful and offend cultural hierarchies by mixing high and low, art and money, art and sex, in sculptures and paintings that are at once offensively ‘slick’ and bizarrely brilliant. Where Hirst has run out of ideas, Koons carries on being gleefully provocative. He is the art world’s true king of pop.”
Jeff Koons, most successful American artist since Warhol, so what’s the art world got against him? (vulture.com).
“Koons has made his name manufacturing toys for rich old boys—exacting pagan monuments to mass-culture triviality, like his stainless-steel balloon animals or vibrantly colored metallic Popeye, which he calls a self-portrait…”
Recent/related stories:
Adobe previewed Projects Mighty and Napoleon, a digital pen and ruler for the iPad & iPhone (digitalartsonline.co.uk).
“Both projects were shown connected to an iPad or iPhone using Bluetooth, and work with as yet unreleased apps designed specifically for the hardware, to provide new ways to create illustrations digitally.”
“… Adobe’s not aiming to make money out of hardware. What Adobe does well is make software, and Mighty and Napoleon are a way to make that software work seamlessly with creative tools.”
Recent/related stories:
Microsoft prepares U-turn on Windows 8 (ft.com).
“Pressure has been building for Windows 8 PCs to launch the familiar desktop view when turned on—and to bring back the “start” button featured in the lower left corner of the screen in previous releases.”
I don’t know one person using it who isn‘t using some Start menu replacement.
“It’s unclear if the Start tip will be enough to quiet critics who are clamoring for the ease of use that comes with familiarity. The Start tip is a bit of a half-step toward a Start button. Microsoft seems to be giving a nod to its critics but not quite giving them all they had wanted.”
Recent/related stories:
Is Google Glass missing one critical factor? (cnet.com).
“… Google Glass still doesn’t have a clear response to the one big question that all revolutionary products must answer: How does it make my life better?”
I dunno; We live in a very voyeuristic, vicarious era, that POV potential may well turn out to be it’s raison d’être.
