Selena Gomez hits the beach in Cabo San Lucas with friends ahead of New Year’s Eve (people.com).

Selena Gomez is ending 2017 on sunny note. The 25-year-old “Bad Liar” singer escaped to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for New Year’s Eve weekend, where she was seen splashing in the waves Friday alongside pals Raquelle Stevens, Courtney Barry, and Ashley Cook in an Instagram photo shared to Stevens’ page.

And, bless her, didn’t she deserve it, as most would agree unless clutching their alt-right doodah muttering about that “feminist-agenda” making their right-alt manhood shrivel in an armchair while still waiting for those subservient fems Orange Don promised would be visiting virtual truck stop basement ManOChat.

And thankfully the paparazzi scene at the beach was not given the appalling gossip column headlines and shaming “critics” it received a couple of years back when her lupus was first diagnosed (Pick of the Week, 2nd May 2015).

Alas by just the second paragraph the article is inevitably hijacked by “is she, isn’t she” leaving it or not to Bieber:

Many of the friend’s boyfriends appear to be joining them, though it’s unclear whether Gomez’s on-again, off-again beau Justin Bieber is there. On Friday he posted a video to Instagram Stories showing a colorful hand-drawn picture that read “His Perfect Love” from a sprawling sunny tropical estate.

The “isn’t the only major milestone” for SelGo that isn’t Bieber having to wait till paragraph eleven for a mention:

In September, the actress shocked when she announced that, due to lupus complications, she’d received a kidney transplant from her best friend Francia Raisa over the summer. “She saved my life… I feel incredibly lucky,” Gomez said in November at Billboard’s 2017 Women in Music event, where she was honored with the Women of the Year award. Raisa, who has been Gomez’s close confidant for nearly eight years, presented her with the trophy.

But some had heard that Biebs had given her a locket of his marvelous hair as a “trophy” too, but then took it back a week later after an argument on whether it would have really been possible, with his mad fighting and egg throwing skills, to kill him in Zoolander 2 after all.

But with the mere mortal humility that perhaps Beibs and certainly the “my day is trollin’ ’n’ boostin’ ’ma fragile ego” social media “haters” of seeming anything and everything lack:

“Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the position that I’ve been given in my career … I want people to know that I respect the platform that I have so deeply because I knew that I wanted to be a part of something great, I wanted people to feel great,” Gomez added.

And—regardless of whether you like it or not—with a self-belief in her music that should put more supercilious “I’ll never sell out, I just do what I do” musos to shame:

“I feel like for me, with my music, I’ve been able to illustrate the things that I want. And I’m reminded by a team of people who believe in me even when I don’t myself and I couldn’t be more luckier.”

Perhaps reminding that, as serious and all to often annoyingly pretentious musos stress, to get where you want to go you have to follow your heart to find your creative self: Selena Gomez opens up about leaving former band The Scene (teenvogue.com, Jul. 2017).

Selena went on to say that her time with The Scene was more of an exploratory period of where she wanted to go as a musician. “It helped me to have people who were older around me that helped guide me, and inspired me and pushed me,” she added. “And there was a moment when I felt like I could do it and I wanted to try it on my own.”
