“No Kardashian Parking” signs are popping up all over Hollywood (refinery29.com).
Refinery29 emailed with Plastic Jesus, the street artist who has been placing them across the city, about his work.
“The No Kardashian signs are intended to encourage a dialogue about our obsession with celebrity.’”
For sure, love ’em or hate ’em, they are a talking point, and an easy one with which to deal and pick a side with—perhaps that is their role? And they certainly get a lot of attention that perhaps others would like.
“The Kardashians are probably the highest profile media celebs. Whenever they leave their home it turns into a media event. What happened to real news about issues that matter? The media and consumer has become lazy.”
Indeed, with the lazy “media and consumer” now taking the role of patronage once held by Popes, Princes, celebrities and the rich and famous, you still just can’t ignore the Kardashians while bringing “issues that matter” to our attention, so that people can—love ’em or hate ’em—continue to talk about the Kardashians while still ignoring issues that matter.
